The Annual Report on the State of Air in Kosovo for 2021 provides an overview of data on air quality and emissions, the impact of air quality on health, the legal framework, investments in the air sector, and recommendations for improving the situation.
The data presented in the report were collected through the air quality monitoring process, using the monitoring network managed by the Hydrometeorological Institute of Kosovo, assessments and analyses of pollution sources, data and reports from institutions monitoring air quality, economic operators conducting air quality monitoring, and various projects in the air sector implemented by institutions or donors during 2021.
The collected data were processed and assessed by the Environmental State Assessment Sector within the Directorate for Environmental State Assessment of the Kosovo Environmental Protection Agency.
Regarding air quality, the report provides data and assessments for five pollutants: Carbon Monoxide (CO), Ozone (O₃), Sulfur Dioxide (SO₂), Nitrogen Dioxide (NO₂), and particulate matter with a diameter smaller than 10 and 2.5 microns (PM10 and PM2.5).
The data on air emissions include estimates of NOx, SO₂ and total dust emissions from the following economic operators: TCA and TCB, New Co Feronikel and Sharr Cem.
