The Institute for Nature Protection of Kosovo, in cooperation with the Bulgarian Caving Society and the Directorate of Bjeshkët e Nemuna National Park, organized a speleological research expedition in Bjeshkët e Nemuna National Park.
During the expedition, the following caves were explored and mapped: Drelaj Cave, Flag Cave (or Sterqoka Cave), in Hajla, with a depth of 45 m; Twin Caves (Bajshe), with a depth of 35 m; and the Cave at Rrasa e Zogut, with a depth of 200 m.
Located at an altitude of approximately 1,900 meters, the Cave at Rrasa e Zogut is the deepest cave explored to date in Kosovo. So far, 200 m of the cave have been explored and mapped, but it is estimated that the cave may reach a depth of up to 500 m.
Speleological research in this cave will continue next year, with the aim of further documenting and expanding knowledge of its structure, depth, and underground characteristics.
