09.02.2015 - As part of activities for nature conservation, on the initiative of the Institute for Nature Protection operating within the Kosovo Environmental Protection Agency, among other things, the Red List of Vascular Flora of Kosovo was prepared last year. This list was approved through a decision signed by the Minister of MMPH, Mr. Ferid Agani.

The compilation of this list was based on the Red Book of Vascular Flora of the Republic of Kosovo, prepared last year, and the professional assessment of the Kosovo Institute for Nature Protection (IKMN).

The Red List of vascular flora of the Republic of Kosovo is of particular importance because it focuses the attention of all nature lovers on the significance of threats to biodiversity, it also reveals those species which need protective measures and lays the foundation of information for their further monitoring. This List is also of great importance because it provides information that helps in the formulation of protection priorities at the local level and enables closer cooperation with international organizations engaged in environmental protection, such as the Convention on Biological Diversity and the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora.

According to this decision, this list is registered in the register of protected natural values maintained by the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning and the Kosovo Institute for Nature Protection. The decision also includes the IUCN criteria that have been used to assess the threat status of species.
