29 December 2022

At its 116th meeting, held on 28 December 2022, the Government of the Republic of Kosovo, among other decisions, approved the Spatial Plan for “Bjeshkët e Nemuna” National Park.

This document, which sets out the long-term principles and objectives of spatial planning for a 10-year period, aims to enable the achievement of strategic goals and objectives through the implementation of actions, measures and activities planned in the Plan. The proposed recommendations and developments will directly contribute to the protection and sustainable development of this area.

Part of the activities during the preparation of the document included identifying the causes of the problems encountered, assessing the risks posed to the area by negative phenomena, identifying the resources and potential of the Park’s territory, and orienting the Park towards sustainable development.

The Plan was prepared by the Institute for Spatial Planning in cooperation with the Inter-Ministerial Working Group, other relevant institutions at the central and local levels, and participants from various fields, professions and structures.

The further approval procedure, as provided for by the Law on Spatial Planning and the Law on Nature Protection, stipulates that the Plan must also be approved by the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo.

“Bjeshkët e Nemuna” National Park is one of Kosovo’s most valuable natural assets, whose values, including biological and landscape diversity, extend beyond the borders of our country. The Spatial Plan document will contribute to the conservation and sustainable use of this area.
