22 October 2023

The project for marking the external boundaries of “Sharri” and “Bjeshkët e Nemuna” National Parks has been completed in recent days. The boundary-marking process was carried out as part of a project for marking the external boundaries of the two national parks, funded by the Budget of the Republic of Kosovo. The aim of the project was to mark the external boundaries with appropriate signs, namely information and prohibition signs using colors and corresponding signs.

During the implementation of the marking project for the two national parks, the following activities were carried out:

Marking: Visible red and white markings were placed along the external boundaries of “Sharri” and “Bjeshkët e Nemuna” National Parks, measuring 15 cm in length and 1.5 cm in width, with a distance of 2 cm between the lines. The markings were placed on stable natural features such as tree trunks, stones and rocks. Where such features were not available, the markings were placed on wooden stakes or stone slabs embedded in the ground. The distance between two markings in the field ranges from 100 to 300 m, depending on the terrain configuration, visibility and the presence of natural features suitable for placing the markings.

Information Boards: Signs, namely information boards, were installed at the entrance points of “Sharri” and “Bjeshkët e Nemuna” National Parks, as well as in the tourist areas of these zones. The boards also contain maps of the respective locations and the boundaries of the national parks, a brief description of the natural values of the area, as well as accompanying and explanatory photographs.

Prohibition Information Boards: These boards were installed in the tourist areas of “Sharri” and “Bjeshkët e Nemuna” National Parks. They contain maps and other necessary information indicating the restrictions on certain activities that are not permitted within the park territory.

Prohibition Barriers: Barriers were installed at designated locations within the national parks, particularly at points where control over certain activities is required, such as illegal logging, illegal hunting or other prohibited activities within the park, with the aim of protecting natural values and ensuring the sustainable management of the parks.

The process of marking the territory of the national parks will help with the management of these protected areas, as well as with informing citizens and visitors about the boundaries, natural values and activities that are prohibited in these areas. These parks possess unique natural values of scientific, educational, cultural, historical, recreational and tourism importance of national interest. Therefore, their protection and sustainable management are of great importance for present and future generations.
