Study “Measures and Instruments for Reducing Air Pollution” Presented

17 November 2023

As part of a workshop focused on the cost-effectiveness and other aspects of the proposed measures and instruments for improving air quality in Kosovo, as well as on the joint development of scenarios for 2030–2050, the study “Air Pollution in Kosovo – Proposed Policy Measures and Instruments to Reduce Pollution in Key Sectors” was also presented.

The aim of the workshop was to present the main findings of the study, raise awareness of the air quality situation and highlight possible measures, as well as to encourage greater engagement and commitment to this issue at both the local and national levels.

The study was conducted by the Swedish Environmental Research Institute (IVL), based on data collected by the Kosovo Environmental Protection Agency and analyzed using the GAINS model. The study specifically assessed potential measures for reducing air emissions in three key sectors: small-scale combustion, energy and heat production, and diesel-based road transport.

The study also presented results on the cost-effectiveness of implementing these measures, the instruments and policies proposed for implementing the measures to improve air quality in Kosovo, and the development of pollution reduction scenarios for 2030 and 2050.

Representatives of central and local institutions, donors, public enterprises and civil society participated in the workshop, taking part in discussions and presenting their experiences and commitment to this issue.

This workshop was organized within the framework of the project “Capacity Building for the Use of Environmental Data in Kosovo”, funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) and implemented by the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) in cooperation with the Kosovo Environmental Protection Agency (KEPA).
