Given that one of the main functions of national parks is also the development of ecotourism, the MESP, through KEPA, namely the Directorates of the National Parks, has continuously undertaken measures and activities to create suitable infrastructure conditions for visitors to stay and hike in nature.
Over the past three years, in Sharri National Park, within the framework of the project “Improvement and Signage of Hiking Trails within the Territory of National Parks”, three hiking trails have been improved and marked:
- Trail – Brezovica Ski Centre – Livadhi Lake – Ljuboten;
- Trail – Prevalla – Lumbardhi Spring – Bistra Peak;
- Trail – Struzha – Karaulla – Great Lake.
These trails have a total length of 31 km.
In addition, the project included activities such as:
- Marking the hiking trails with visible colored signs, in accordance with the relevant standards, as well as their digitization;
- Installing information, directional and prohibition signs at entrance points and other locations designated by the Directorate of Sharri National Park;
- Installing benches at locations designated by the Directorate of Sharri National Park;
- Arranging and establishing designated fire areas at locations determined by the Directorate of Sharri National Park;
- Improving the hiking trails (excavation, leveling, widening, installation of wooden elements, etc.);
- Maintaining the trails (cleaning, infrastructure and material renovation, etc.).
The MESP will continue activities for the improvement and annual maintenance of the main hiking trails in the future, with the aim of providing nature enthusiasts with basic infrastructure to enjoy hiking and the natural beauty offered by the national parks.
