A delegation from the Directorate for the Administration of Sharri National Park, headed by Acting Director Nail Kryeziu, was welcomed on a working visit by the Public Institution “Sharri National Park” in North Macedonia. This meeting was more than just a working meeting – it was a testament to the fact that when it comes to nature, borders do not divide us, but bring us together.
During the discussions, the common challenges we face every day in protecting this rare natural heritage were addressed, with a particular focus on coordinating activities in the field, cooperation between park rangers, and organizing joint campaigns to educate and raise awareness among citizens and visitors. Experiences, practices and new ideas were exchanged regarding the monitoring of important species and habitats, the use of modern methods for tracking wildlife and assessing their populations, particularly species that move freely across both sides of the border.
As part of this cooperation and based on the Memorandum of Cooperation between the two institutions, the Public Institution “Sharri National Park” provided Sharri National Park of the Republic of Kosovo with four (4) wildlife monitoring cameras for temporary use, with the aim of strengthening capacities for monitoring, research and more effective protection of biodiversity throughout the Sharri Mountain range. Wildlife knows no borders, and its protection requires a coordinated and harmonized approach. This is why both institutions are continuously working to harmonize their activities in order to ensure the highest level of protection of the natural values of Sharri Mountain.
This meeting is another step towards strengthening friendship, trust and partnership between the two institutions, with the aim of ensuring that Sharri Mountain remains a symbol of untouched nature, biodiversity and cross-border cooperation. Sharri Mountain is one mountain – and its protection is a shared responsibility.
The visit of the delegation of the Directorate for the Administration of Sharri National Park to North Macedonia was carried out within the component for strengthening national parks under the project “Building Capacities for Nature Protection and the Use of Environmental Data”, which is being implemented as part of the cooperation between the Kosovo Environmental Protection Agency (KEPA) and the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA), with support from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA). This component also includes activities aimed at strengthening cross-border cooperation between the Directorate for the Administration of Sharri National Park and the Public Institution “Sharri National Park” in North Macedonia.
