A Strategic Step Towards Integration into the European Network of Meteorological Services

The Hydrometeorological Institute of Kosovo (HMIK), within the Kosovo Environmental Protection Agency (KEPA), has signed a Cooperation Agreement with EUMETNET, the European network of National Meteorological and Hydrological Services, marking an important milestone in the institutional and technical development of the hydrometeorological sector in Kosovo.

The agreement, which entered into force on 7 July 2026 and is valid until 31 December 2028, establishes the basis for HMIK’s active participation in a number of important EUMETNET programmes, enabling the exchange of knowledge, experience and the most advanced European technologies in the fields of meteorology, climatology and weather forecasting.

What is EUMETNET (European Meteorological Network)?

EUMETNET is a cooperation network of 33 National Meteorological Services in Europe, coordinating joint programmes for atmospheric observation, meteorological radars, numerical weather prediction, nowcasting, climate monitoring, professional education and institutional capacity development.
