Last year, Kosovo faced dozens of wildfires that destroyed forests, property, pastures, agricultural land and damaged the environment. Many of these fires were caused by human negligence and spread rapidly due to high temperatures, drought and strong winds.
This summer, another period of high temperatures is beginning, and each of us has a responsibility to protect nature.
We should not view nature protection only as a legal obligation, but also as a moral and civic responsibility towards our country. Although causing fires and deliberately burning areas are prohibited acts punishable by law, the strongest reason for preventing them should be our love for Kosovo’s nature.
Every burned forest, every destroyed hectare and every lost habitat is a loss for all of us and for future generations. Nature cannot be replaced in a single day; it takes decades to build, while it can be destroyed within a few minutes.
Do not light fires in forests, fields or open areas. Do not burn agricultural waste and do not throw lit cigarettes into nature. A single spark can cause major damage to the environment, property and human lives.
A moment of carelessness can destroy nature that has been created over thousands of years, while it takes many years to restore the damage caused. Therefore, your care today protects nature and our future.
