25 August 2026
This analysis includes temperature and precipitation data for the periods July–August 2025 and July–August 2026.
For this period, the following were calculated: average temperature, average daily Tmax and Tmin, extremes (absolute maximum/minimum with date and time), the number of days with extreme heat (Tmax ≥ 35°C and ≥ 38°C), the number of “tropical nights” (minimum temperature during the period from 00:00 to 05:00 ≥ 20°C), and total monthly precipitation.
The extremes recorded at the stations included in this analysis are not necessarily the highest recorded at the national level. During July 2025, a record temperature of 42.4°C was recorded at the meteorological station in Klina, while a maximum of 42.2°C was recorded in Hani i Elezit — values exceeding the absolute extreme (40.17°C) captured in the hourly series analyzed here, confirming the wide extent of the heatwave across the country during that month.
In July 2026, record precipitation was recorded across most of the territory of Kosovo, exceeding 100 mm during the month, with the exception of the central and northeastern parts, where precipitation amounts were significantly lower. These supplementary data help contextualize the findings below within the broader national context.
The comparison between the two years shows an interesting and non-linear pattern: July 2026 was cooler and had significantly more precipitation than July 2025, while August 2026 was warmer than August 2025.
This variability highlights the importance of month-to-month monitoring rather than relying on general seasonal conclusions, as well as the need for flexible agricultural strategies that adapt to current conditions instead of assumptions based on previous years.
