In his presentation before the members of the commission, the Minister of MMPHI, Mr. Liburn Aliu, stated among other things that “based on the provisions of the Law on Environmental Protection (Article 25), the Ministry of Environment, Spatial Planning and Infrastructure, through the Kosovo Environmental Protection Agency, has prepared the Report on the State of the Environment for the year 2022, which after being reviewed by the Government of Kosovo will be sent for further review to the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo”.
The 2022 Environmental Status Report includes data on: the state of the environment and environmental changes compared to the previous report, environmental pressures, environmental impacts on population health, the state of endangered environments, the implementation of the Strategy and Action Plan, measures taken for environmental protection, the functioning of environmental institutions, as well as the financing of the environmental protection system.
For the preparation of the report, AMMK collected environmental data from monitoring institutions, operators, various enterprises, publications, reports, and other sources. The collected data has been processed into environmental information and indicators, which are now presented in this report.
The main objective of this report is to inform decision-making institutions about the state of the environment in Kosovo, with the aim that the presented data serve for the drafting of appropriate environmental policies, as well as for guiding developments, planning, and strategic investments in sectors that impact the environment, such as: economy, industry, energy, transport, agriculture, etc.
The Minister of MMPHI has also presented, among other things, the main findings according to the respective sectors, including air, water, soil, biodiversity, public health, as well as the measures taken to improve the state of the environment, and has highlighted some of the key achievements and improvements in the environment that occurred during the year 2022.
According to the procedure, after discussion in the Committee on Environment, Food, Agriculture, Planning and Development, the report will be submitted for consideration, discussion, and approval in the Assembly of Kosovo.
