On the initiative of the Kosovo Institute for Nature Protection, and after the drafting of the relevant professional reasoning, 13 natural heritage areas in the territory of the municipality of Prizren have been brought under protection.
Within the newly declared protected natural heritage areas are mainly natural monuments of botanical character, natural monuments of geomorphological and speleological character, natural monuments of hydrological character, and natural landscapes with special natural values.
With the declaration of these new natural areas, the total number of protected areas in Kosovo has reached 273 areas of different categories, encompassing approximately 11.7% of the total territory of Kosovo.
Protecting the values of natural heritage enables their protection and more efficient management through institutional care and the implementation of appropriate measures.
