Based on the Law on Nature Protection and the initial reasoning prepared by the Kosovo Institute for Nature Protection, the Minister of the Ministry of Environment, Spatial Planning and Infrastructure, Mr. Liburn Aliu, on 10.05.2024 issued the decision to place the area "Guri i Hoxhës in the Perlepnica River Gorge" under preliminary protection as a nature protected area within the territory of the municipality of Ranilug.
From the field visits carried out by the Kosovo Institute for Nature Protection, it has been established that the area has predispositions for preliminary protection based on its geomorphological, hydrological, speleological values as well as the biodiversity values the area possesses.
Within the framework of values with geomorphological characteristics observed in the field are: the Perlepnica River Gorge and the considerable presence of limestone rocks with surface and underground karstic forms.
The values with hydrological characteristics observed in the area are: the river flow, artificial waterfalls, and water springs, while the speleological values (underground cavities, pits, caves, etc.) have only been observed on the surface and need further investigation.
Also, the area proposed for preliminary protection has biodiversity values observed during field visits, which will be supplemented by future field research.
The final decision regarding the protection, area, and category of protection for the zone will be made after the completion of additional field research, which must continue within the legally prescribed period of 2 years.
