The preparation of the Report on the State of the Environment in Kosovo is based on the Law on Environmental Protection. According to Article 25 of this law, the Government of Kosovo, upon the proposal of the Ministry of Environment, Spatial Planning and Infrastructure, submits to the Assembly the Annual Report on the State of the Environment.
This annual report presents the state of the environment for the year 2022, but earlier data have also been given significant space for comparison purposes. For the preparation of the report, the AMMK has collected environmental data from monitoring institutions, operators, various enterprises, publications, reports, and other sources. The collected data have been processed into qualitative environmental information, which is now presented in this report.
The report contains data on the state of the environment and environmental changes compared to the previous report, the use of natural resources, environmental impacts on the health of the population, the condition of endangered environments, the implementation of the environmental strategy and action plan, measures taken for environmental protection, the development of environmental institutions, as well as the financing of the environmental protection system. The content and quality of this report, to some extent, also reflect the quality of monitoring implemented nationwide, as well as the level of organization of the environmental information system.
The main purpose of this report is to inform decision-making institutions about the state of the environment in Kosovo, with the aim that the presented data will serve for the formulation of adequate environmental policies, as well as for guiding developments, planning, and strategic investments in sectors that impact the environment, such as: the economy, industry, energy, transport, agriculture, etc.
