During this period, an important activity was carried out for monitoring biodiversity in Kosovo, specifically the placement of identification rings and tracking devices on two individuals of the white stork species (Ciconia ciconia).
This activity was carried out as a result of the cooperation between the Kosovo Institute for Nature Protection (IKMN) and the Kosovo Environmental Education and Research Center (KEERC). The activity aims to study the movement, behavior, migratory routes, and other activities important for monitoring individual white storks that nest in our country, specifically the individuals “Sharri” and “Pashtriku”.
The placement of these devices aims at real-time tracking of the routes followed by storks, determining their stopover locations during migration routes, as well as increasing awareness for the conservation of this important species. IKMN thanks all collaborators and experts who made this successful and safe intervention for the birds possible.
