Within the framework of this bulletin, which aims to inform about the main activities carried out within the project, the activity for the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Hydrometeorological Institute of Kosovo and the Institute of Hydrometeorology and Seismology of Montenegro is also included.
The purpose of this memorandum is to expand cooperation for the strengthening of the National Forest Fire Information Systems, and to facilitate data exchange through these systems.
The project on building capacities for Disaster Risk Reduction through the National Forest Fire Information System (NFFIS) and Eco-DRR aims to strengthen the capacities of government officials in preventing and mitigating forest fires and other natural disasters through the creation of NFFIS and Eco-DRR.
One of the main activities of the project is the development of NFFIS (National Forest Fire Information System), which is an integrated web-GIS system for fire prevention and early warning that allows for the exchange of information with the relevant agencies. By combining satellite and weather information with topographic maps, it is possible to monitor where fires are likely to occur, how easily fires spread, and how dry the area is. This information can be used for early warning.
