On the occasion of June 5 - World Environment Day, the Kosovo Environmental Protection Agency, at a press conference, presented the results of the study "Environment in the Daily Print Media."
The Minister of MESP, Mahir Yagcilar, on this occasion highly appreciated the role of the media in informing the public about environmental issues and encouraged them to continue addressing these problems. "The media are the first to provide the public with information about everything that happens in our environment, therefore their contribution to awareness, information, and their approach to the environment is incomparable."
By fairly informing the public about the state of the environment, we as a society also fulfill a requirement arising from the Aarhus Convention on the public's right to information on important environmental issues. Therefore, by being transparent and providing the requested information, and by you, by informing fairly and professionally, we fulfill this need which is a practice in all democratic countries. " said, among other things, Minister Yagcilar in his speech.
The research was conducted with the aim of gaining a clear overview of the presence of environmental issues in daily print media, raising media awareness about environmental problems, identifying the media outlets and journalists who deal the most with environmental issues, and encouraging them to continue addressing these problems. The research was conducted for the period January-April 2008, and it presents data on the number of articles in daily print media according to months, newspapers, the nature of the articles, the level of coverage, the sector, and the environmental issues addressed.
