25.02.2011 - The Gryka e Madhe Cave in the Rugova Gorge and the Radavci Cave continue to be objects of research for international and foreign speleologists. From 19.02.2011 until 25.02.2011, a research expedition was also conducted in these two caves and in the surrounding areas. The expedition is the result of cooperation between the Aragonit Speleologists Association from Peja, the Kosovo Environmental Protection Agency, as well as a team of speleologists from the Slovak Republic. Part of the research expedition was also a team from the KAPE. During this expedition, several new corridors and galleries that had not been explored before were investigated. Also, several measurements of the galleries and corridors were taken in these caves, from which a digital map of the caves was made. The investigated corridors and galleries are rich in stalactites and stalagmites that

They present rare scientific and tourist values. Similar expeditions for the purpose of exploring corridors and other unexplored galleries in these two caves will continue in the future.

The Gryka e Madhe Cave is located at the eighth kilometer of the Rugova Gorge, on the right side, about 90 m above the bed of the Lumbardhi River of Peja. The entrance of the cave is at an altitude of 637 m above sea level. The length of the explored corridors and galleries is about 13,450 m. This cave is one of the largest caves in Kosovo and the region.

The Great Gorge Cave was formed by water flow in the Triassic rocks. Inside the cave, there are several underground rivers and lakes of different shapes and sizes, which have contributed to the expansion of the underground corridors and galleries. The Great Gorge Cave has rare natural, scientific, hydric, biological, educational, and tourist values. This cave is one of the most attractive natural sites for conducting research and tourist expeditions not only in the Accursed Mountains massif but also in the Western Balkan region.
