10.02.2012-Thanks to the project Participation of Western Balkan Countries in the work of the European Environment Agency, the Kosovo Environmental Protection Agency will gain new experience through activities planned in this project also during 2012 and 2013. This project is implemented within the framework of preparatory measures to support candidate and potential candidate countries in the European integration process, with a particular emphasis on supporting the Environmental Protection Agencies of the Balkan countries in their participation in activities organized by the European Environment Agency.
The main objective of the project is to support the Western Balkan countries in all key activities planned in the work program of the European Environment Agency (EEA) and the European Environment Information and Observation Network (EIONET). Among other things, the project aims to improve the process of data flow and exchange between the Environmental Agencies of the Balkan countries and the European Environment Agency, to include their contribution within the Assessments and Reports on the state of the European environment, to support the National Focal Points and National Reference Centers in their participation in Workshops, Trainings, and meetings organized by the EEA and EIONET, as well as to provide other technical support through experts and projects.
The year 2012 is the third year of collaboration between AMMK and EEA through the project Participation of Western Balkan Countries in the work of the European Environment Agency. Since joining this project in 2010, a NFP (National Focal Point) has been appointed and the NRC (National Reference Centres) network has been developed for 23 reference centres. AMMK officials, in their capacity as National Reference Centres for specific fields, have participated in dozens of workshops, seminars, and trainings organized by the EEA, reports have been made on air emissions and greenhouse gases, water quality in rivers and groundwater quality, protected areas, monthly and seasonal ozone exceedances, and information and experience have been exchanged regarding reports, policies, and achievements in the field of the environment.
