30 January 2013
30/01/2013 - The Kosovo Environmental Protection Agency has received information that in the territory of the Municipality of Shtime, specifically in the village of Topillë, another cave was discovered a few days ago. According to initial information, it is a cave with rare natural values, which has a natural entrance, a corridor that continues for about 20 meters, and another part that has not yet been explored. The cave is located on the road to the village of Topillë, specifically a few hundred meters above the place called Vrella e Zezë. The cave was discovered by the young man Idriz Rexhaj, from the village of Petrova, while he was working on extracting stones at this location.
Municipal officials from the municipality of Shtime have visited the cave location and have undertaken initial measures to protect it from damage. In the coming days, experts from the Institute for Nature Protection, operating under the Agency for Environmental Protection of Kosovo, are also expected to visit the cave and provide an assessment of the natural values of the cave and the steps that need to be taken for its legal protection.
Otherwise, the territory of the municipality of Shtime is known as an area rich in caves. The Institute for Nature Protection has also recorded in the register of areas with natural values several other caves in this municipality, such as the Pjetershtica Cave, the Bat Cave, the Imer Devetak Cave, etc.
In the future, it is planned that these caves will be explored, and then work will be done to improve the necessary infrastructure with the aim of opening them to visitors, since these rare natural monuments, alongside their natural values, are also characterized by historical, cultural, and touristic values.
