16/05/2013- The Kosovo Environmental Protection Agency organized the workshop Monitoring, Reporting and Environmental Information System, legal basis and cooperation with municipalities, economic operators, and other environmental institutions. The main purpose of this workshop was to strengthen cooperation with municipalities and operators with the aim of improving the system of reporting and exchanging environmental information.
In order to achieve this goal, during this workshop, the legal basis for cooperation with economic operators, municipalities, and other institutions for environmental monitoring, environmental reporting, and the Environmental Information System was initially discussed. Afterwards, the practical implementation of environmental monitoring, environmental reporting, and the Environmental Information System at the Kosovo Environmental Protection Agency was presented, as well as some examples of environmental monitoring and environmental reporting in municipalities (Fushë Kosovë and Podujeva) and among economic operators (NewCo Feronikeli).
Also, part of the workshop's work has been the discussion within working groups where issues were discussed with special emphasis such as: What are the problems and challenges of municipalities and operators regarding monitoring, reporting, and the environmental information system, what are the needs and possibilities of municipalities and operators to eliminate these challenges, and what actions should be taken in the future.
As a result of the presentations and discussions, recommendations have emerged that, in order to improve cooperation between AMMK, the municipalities, and operators, a joint system should be established for the exchange of environmental data, a network of environmental officers from the municipalities of Kosovo should be created, a coordinating body should be formed to oversee the overall work of the network, and possibilities should be considered for publishing a periodic informative brochure on environmental activities in the municipalities of Kosovo and a report on the state of the environment in the municipalities.
Cooperation between AMMK, the municipalities, and economic operators will continue in the future, both in other environmental fields and in the framework of implementing joint projects in the field of the environment that are of interest to the municipalities and economic operators.
