Study visit to Sharr National Park

10 June 2013

10/06/2013 - Representatives of national and nature parks from seven countries in the region will visit the Sharri National Park on 11.06.2013. They will learn about protected areas in Kosovo as well as their management, with a special focus on Sharri National Park. This study trip following Kosovo is planned to continue in Macedonia and is part of the WWF project - Parks of the Dinaric Arc. The goal of this project is to create a network of natural parks and national parks in the territory of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Slovenia, and Serbia.

Around thirty experts working in the nature protection sector from the region have the opportunity to learn how something beneficial for the local population can be done in their protected areas, without harming nature and in a way that would be economically feasible. During their stay at PK Sharri, nature protection experts from the region will have the chance to visit one of the areas with unique values not only in Kosovo but also beyond, such as the Lost Waters reserve, near Prevallë. Ambassadors from European countries accredited in Kosovo, as well as other representatives, are also invited to this event.

The Dinaric Arc Parks Project will last three years, and besides creating a network of parks, it also has an important task in the professional development of park employees in better management and sustainable tourism. Another goal of the project is to work for the recognition of the Dinaric Arc, which is believed by WWF to be, on a global scale, as important as the Alps or the Carpathians. The Dinaric Arc could also become a synonym for sustainable development. WWF is one of the largest and most respected international independent organizations for nature conservation, with nearly five million supporters and an active global network in more than 100 countries. WWF's mission is to stop the degradation of the Earth's natural environment and natural resources as well as to build a future in which people will live in harmony with nature, through r

the loss of global biodiversity and ensuring that the use of natural renewable resources is sustainable and promoting the reduction of pollution levels and unnecessary expenditures.
