Kosovo engulfed by a heat wave

25 July 2013

25/07/2013 - The Hydrometeorological Institute of Kosovo warns that from tomorrow the territory of Kosovo will be engulfed by a heat wave with high temperatures. The heat wave is expected to last until the end of August, but with some periods of temperature drops.

During the coming days (25-31 July) there will be a gradual rise in temperatures which will reach up to 38 degrees Celsius. In urban areas, temperatures are expected to reach up to 40 degrees Celsius due to reflections from buildings and road infrastructure.

It is forecast that during the first half of August (1 to 15 August) temperatures will be similar to those mentioned above, but rain showers of low intensity, local rain showers, as well as thunderstorms and hail are also expected.

There will be wind from the south and southwest, and from the north and northeast. This climatological situation is also aided by many current atmospheric processes such as solar winds, which affect many atmospheric processes occurring in the troposphere, therefore high air temperatures are expected to be recorded even during the second part of August. Citizens with various illnesses are advised to avoid open areas and going out from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is recommended to consume as many liquids and light foods as possible, as well as summer clothing in light colors. It is also recommended to drink water in large amounts.
