18/11/2013- A delegation from the Kosovo Environmental Protection Agency, led by the CEO of KEPA, Dr. Ilir Morina, is staying for an official visit in Slovakia, at the invitation of the Slovak Environmental Agency. On the first day of the visit, the CEO of KEPA met with the Director General of the Slovak Environmental Agency, Mr. Martin Vavrinek. The meeting discussed the possibility of cooperation between the two institutions in the field of environmental protection, with a special emphasis on the responsibilities and duties that these two executive institutions have.
During the first day of the visit to Slovakia, the AMMK delegation, through meetings and presentations by officials from the Slovak Environment Agency and other Slovak environmental institutions, had the opportunity to gain experiences and discuss cooperation with the European Environment Agency, biodiversity conservation, and management of protected areas, as well as to visit several protected areas within the framework of the NATURA 2000 network.
During the next day of the AMMK delegation's stay in Slovakia, meetings are also planned with other environmental institutions of Slovakia, including the Environmental Science Center, where, among other things, experiences will be discussed and exchanged regarding the environmental information system and the implementation of the Inspire Directive, spatial analyses and land use, reporting on the state of the environment and environmental indicators, waste management, soil monitoring, as well as participation within the framework of the EPA Network.
This visit of the AMMK delegation to Slovakia, besides its environmental importance, also has diplomatic significance, since the Slovak state has not yet recognized the Republic of Kosovo, and through deepening cooperation and exchange of experiences between the central institutions of the two countries, the political barriers to the recognition of the state of Kosovo by the Slovak Republic will also be overcome.
