03 December 2013

03/12/2013 - In the latest meeting of the Government of Kosovo, the Spatial Plan for the Sharri National Park was approved, sponsored by the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning. The Sharri National Park is one of the most beautiful and highly valued natural areas of Kosovo, where biological and landscape diversity is characteristic not only for Kosovo but also for the region and beyond. With the aim of conserving this beauty and natural heritage, the relevant MoESP, namely the Institute for Spatial Planning, has completed the drafting of the spatial plan, which clearly defines the directions for the protection and sustainable development of the Park.

The document is the result of the work not only of the staff of the MMPH, but also of the joint engagement of important sectors of the Government of Kosovo, municipalities, relevant institutions, professionals from various fields as well as participants from civil society. This plan will raise the quality of protection throughout the territory of the Park, and on the other hand will provide conditions for controlled development in some characteristic areas. Within the framework of the Plan, the developmental project of the Brezovica tourist center is also foreseen.

During the previous process, meetings have been held with different sectors of the Government of Kosovo, harmonizing the policies of all these sectors related to the Park's area. Additionally, meetings have also been organized with representatives of local governments, such as those of the municipalities of Prizren, Suharekë, Kaçanik, Dragash, and the municipality of Shtërpcë, in the territories where the Park extends and borders. Meetings and consultations have also been held with professionals from various fields and organizations that work and operate in Kosovo.
