09/10/2014 - The Chief Executive Officer of the Kosovo Environmental Protection Agency, Dr. Ilir Morina, met today in Sofia with the Director of the Executive Environment Agency of Bulgaria, Dr. Vanya Grigorova. This meeting took place within the framework of the study visit that the KEEA team, for the Greenhouse Gas Inventory, is conducting in Bulgaria.
The meeting discussed cooperation between the Kosovo Environmental Protection Agency and the Executive Environment Agency of Bulgaria in the sector of environmental monitoring, laboratory accreditation, implementation of joint projects, Kosovo's participation in regional environmental initiatives, integrated waste management, and other environmental fields.
Otherwise, the AMMK delegation during the study visit benefited from Bulgarian experiences in establishing the system for monitoring, reporting, and inventorying greenhouse gases. Likewise, the AMMK team had the opportunity to see in practice environmental projects aimed at reducing greenhouse gases, as was the case with the visit to the integrated waste management plant in Sofia, where the treatment of organic waste produced biogas and compost. This visit was supported by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) office in Kosovo, which has also supported AMMK in the implementation of several other projects in the climate change sector.
