18.12.2014 - After the renovation of the electrical system and the improvement of the internal infrastructure, the Gadime Cave, starting from tomorrow, will be ready to welcome visitors. The project for regulating the cave's lighting and improving its infrastructure was supported by the French Embassy in Kosovo. Within the framework of this project, problems related to water circulation in the cave have also been resolved. The realization of this investment came after a request from the Kosovo Environmental Protection Agency, addressed to the French Embassy in Kosovo, to help in the revitalization of this monument.
As part of this commitment some time ago, several French experts visited the Gadime Cave to get closely acquainted with the condition of this protected natural monument. During the visit, they also identified key problems and the needs for the revitalization of the Cave, and one of the urgent issues was the adjustment of the cave's lighting and its modernization. Due to inadequate lighting in the cave, it was assessed that there have been problems in the natural development of the crystals, and conditions have also been created for the growth of mosses, algae, and fungi, which have damaged the internal appearance of the cave. The modernization of the Cave's electrical system and its fluorescent lighting will be an additional incentive for visitors to enjoy the beauties of this underground gem of Kosovo.
AMMK aims, through donors, to also carry out other investments in the Gadime Cave, restoring to it the epithet of a preferred tourist destination not only on a national scale but also regionally and globally. Likewise, speleological, geological, and hydrological scientific research in the Gadime Cave will continue, and the possibilities for opening its other galleries to visitors will also be explored. The commitment to promoting the cave's values, as well as raising awareness and educating the public about its preservation, will not be lacking.
Otherwise, Gadime Cave is one of the most beautiful caves not only in Kosovo, but also in the Balkans and beyond. In this cave, all types of crystals, stalagmites and stalactites, in various shapes and sizes, are presented, with particular attention drawn to the rare aragonite crystals, which are a very rare phenomenon. The cave is tens of millions of years old. Gadime Cave was put under protection immediately after its discovery on July 29, 1969. In 1982, a decision was made to place the cave under protection as a geomonument with special natural values. The protected area of the cave is about 39 ha.
