21.07.2015 - The preparation of the Report on the state of nature in Kosovo is the responsibility and duty of the Kosovo Institute for Nature Protection, regulated according to Article 142 of the Law on Nature Protection.

The main purpose of the Report is to inform the public about the state of nature, protected areas, and biodiversity of Kosovo. However, through this Report, it is intended that by informing policymakers, an impact is made on improving policies for the management and conservation of the values of natural heritage and biodiversity.

This Report can also serve as a good guide for the orientation of projects and donor support in the nature protection sector. The report contains data on the legal, strategic, and institutional framework in the nature sector, the state of protected natural areas, biodiversity, rare plant and animal species, forest ecosystems, and ecotourism. An important part of the report also covers the measures taken for nature protection, conclusions, and recommendations.

The data presented in this Report were collected during field visits by the Kosovo Institute for Nature Protection, data obtained from the management authorities of protected areas, as well as other governmental and non-governmental institutions. The Report also includes information from laws, strategies, publications, reports, and other documents relevant to the nature protection sector. The data in the Report mainly refer to the period 2010-2014, but in some cases, in the absence of data and for comparative aspects, data from an earlier period have also been presented.
