24.09.2015- The CEO of AMMK, Dr. Sc. Ilir Morina, is participating in the 25th meeting of EPA New York (Network of Heads of European Environmental Agencies), being held in Reykjavik, Iceland.

In the meeting, which will conduct its sessions today and tomorrow, representatives from Environmental Agencies and other relevant institutions of 39 European countries are participating. Kosovo has been a member of this network since 2011, while last year it was the organizer of the 23rd meeting.

The main topics being discussed at this meeting are: the green economy in Europe, the management of plastic waste, and the implementation of the Water Framework Directive with a focus on the safety of marine species. Other topics that will be discussed include cooperation between the EPA Network and the European Commission, the exchange of experiences among network members, the engagement of the European Environment Agency (EEA) in matters related to global climate change, as well as pollution from the use of herbicides and their impact on biodiversity. At this conference, Astrid Schomaker, Director-General for Environment of the European Commission, will also give a lecture on European environmental policies.

In addition to the official meeting program, there will also be other activities and visits such as visits to geothermal energy production sites in Iceland, one of the countries with the cleanest energy in Europe, a visit to the naval museum, and getting to know the rare species of whales and their protection.

Kosovo continues to be an active member of this network not only through participation in regular meetings but also through activities and programs within the framework of interest groups such as the one for the Western Balkans, where work is underway on drafting a joint work program for these countries.
