26.11.2015 - In the framework of implementing its plans, projects, and objectives, IHMK, the hydrology sector, during the years 2014 and 2015, with the support of funds from the Government of the Republic of Kosovo, through MMPH/AMMK, has carried out two important projects, rehabilitating and increasing the number of hydrological measuring stations according to river basins.
Thus, taking into consideration the physico-geographical features of its territory, it has been aimed that it be as well represented as possible with hydrometric measuring stations, so that the hydrological indicators (flows, levels) and their fluctuations in space and time are as well known as possible, given the fact of the importance and value of these indicators for various economic activities, such as irrigation, supply of water to the population and industry, hydropower production, but also for protection from their harmful activity, especially during floods, and crises during periods of drought. This is even more evident, especially in recent decades when there is much discussion about the changes that occur as a result of climate change and the ever-increasing human activity in the environment, particularly in the utilization of water resources.
In the continuation of the completion and expansion of the network of hydrometric stations at the level of Kosovo, IHMK, the hydrology sector, has completed two important projects in the establishment of the system for monitoring hydrological parameters, with automatic hydrometric stations, which will provide coverage in the hydrological aspect of the majority of the territory of the Republic of Kosovo, through which surface waters will be monitored quantitatively, enriching the IHMK database, which is of interest to the state. With the completion of these two very important projects for IHMK and Kosovo in general, a solid number of hydrometric stations has been achieved, covering most of the territory of Kosovo.
Meanwhile, other objectives in the near future are for the number of hydrological measurement stations to be installed in some peripheral or smaller rivers, which are important to study from a hydrogeographical perspective. But also according to the needs and demands that may arise over time.
