17.12.2015 - The Kosovo Environmental Protection Agency, specifically the Hydrometeorological Institute of Kosovo, within the framework of air quality reporting, has prepared a special report for the Drenas area.
From the report, the conclusions drawn are that the main problem for air quality in Drenas is the exceedance of the allowable standard values for PM10, which makes the air quality in this area unsatisfactory.
It is estimated that the increase in PM10 concentration in the air is contributed to by emissions from transport, industry, the use of fuels for heating, and other anthropogenic activities.
The report also assesses that for the allowed standard values for gaseous pollutants such as SO2, CO, NO2, and O3, no exceedances were registered during the period referred to in the report.
It has also been observed that during the winter season, the air quality in this region worsens due to the influence of meteorological conditions and the increased use of wood and coal as fuel for heating.
Currently, IHMK monitors air quality in the Drenas area through: 1 fixed automatic station, 1 mobile station, and at 4 monitoring locations with portable equipment. Since October 2015, monitoring of PM10 and the presence of heavy metals in this parameter has been carried out.
