03.05.2016 - According to the Hydrometeorological Institute of Kosovo, rainfall has affected Kosovo with low intensity starting during yesterday (02/04/2016), while during the evening hours of 03/04/2016, it was of increased intensity. Rainfall is expected to be present throughout the territory of Kosovo even today. Thus, during the upcoming hours, heavy rainfall is forecasted, with maximum intensity around midday today, where the amount of rainfall within 24 hours is expected to reach approximately 37-50 mm.
Local intermittent rain with low intensity will also occur during this afternoon, which will continue during the coming days (04-05/04/2016), while on the 06th it is expected to cease.
From these rains, the water level in rivers, especially those with a mountainous character, is expected to be more turbulent and faster, which will initially result in floods as well as landslides, with sensitivity for the affected and more exposed areas: very high 17%, high 58%, medium 11%. The areas with a high potential for flooding are the western part of Kosovo, specifically the northern part of the Dukagjin Plain (Peja Bistrica, Deçan Bistrica, Istog River, White Drin), the northern and central part of Kosovo (Ibar, Sitnica, Drenica), floods in some parts of the Sitnica river. Likewise, a similar situation will occur in the eastern part of Kosovo (Morava e Binçs, Kriva Reka). For more information, see the report from IHMK.
