03.05.2016 - As part of the regular activities for monitoring and inventorying biodiversity in protected natural areas, the officials of the IKMN conducted a field visit to the Junik and Deçan Gorge, specifically to the Erenik and Baballoq Mountains within the framework of the PK Bjeshkët e Nemuna.
On this occasion, recordings were obtained from two camera traps that had been placed some time ago in areas believed to be possible zones of movement for a number of wild animal species.
After checking the cameras, it was observed that mammal species had been photographed such as: Brown bear (Ursus arctos), Wild boar (Sus scrofa), Roe deer (Capreolus capreolus), Red deer (Cervus elaphus), Fox (Vulpes vulpes), Wildcat (Felis sylvestris), as well as some other common species that could not be clearly observed. From the presence of their considerable numbers, it can be concluded that the fauna in this part of the park is relatively well-maintained.
Camera traps are devices with automatic triggering, equipped with a sensor that detects the movement of warm-blooded animals and photographs them the moment they pass in front of the device. These devices are mounted on trees or special stakes. This method is non-intensive for studying fauna, as it generates information about the presence and number of different species without disturbing them.
Such cameras have been installed for some time in different parts of the Sharri and Bjeshkët e Nemuna National Parks, with the sole purpose of monitoring the condition of the wildlife and the presence of different species of wild animals.
So far, these cameras have provided reliable data on the presence of various species of wild animals in these protected areas.
