IHMK warns of the possibility of floods in the coming days!

06 September 2016

06.09.2016 - As a result of the cyclone coming from the north-western part of the continent, starting from the afternoon hours of 05/09/2016, rain showers with an intensity of about 13 mm/3h (13l/m2) began in the western part of our country, which during the evening hours covered the entire country. This situation will continue for the next two days (07-08/09/2016), with higher intensity on 06/09/2016 when about 40 mm will fall within 24 hours, while on 07/09/2016 the intensity will be lower, with about 20 mm expected to fall intermittently. During the afternoon hours of 09/09/2016, the rain is expected to stop.

This situation will cause even river flows, especially those with a plain character, to have a slow but steady rise in water level over the next 3 days, which in some sections will overflow their banks, causing flooding of the surrounding areas. The areas expected to be most affected by the floods are the middle and lower courses of the White Drin with its branches Erenik, Deçani Bistrica, Peja Bistrica, the Istog River, then the middle and lower courses of the Ibar River, Lepenc, Nerodimja, etc. See the full report from IHMK for more details.
