06.09.2016- The USA and China, the two largest polluters in the world in terms of carbon dioxide emissions, have ratified the global climate agreement.
This agreement was sealed in December in France, and it was considered a triumph for environmental organizations that are often ignored.
Initially, the members of the Central Committee of the National People's Congress in China approved the proposal for the revision and ratification of the Paris pact after long discussions lasting a full week. Immediately following Beijing's move, a clear signal from the USA for the ratification of the agreement also arrived.
Upon arriving alongside other G20 leaders for the summit held in the Chinese city of Hangzhou, White House Chief Barack Obama stated that history will judge today’s efforts as of vital importance. Carbon dioxide emissions are considered the main factor behind climate change. The United States and China together are responsible for 40 percent of carbon emissions worldwide. In December, the countries participating in the climate conference agreed to reduce emissions enough to keep the increase in the global average temperature below 2 degrees Celsius.
