20 December 2016

20.12.2016 - Based on measurements carried out by the Hydrometeorological Institute of Kosovo and analysis of results obtained from automatic air quality monitoring at measurement stations in Prishtina, it has been observed that during recent days daily limit values for PM10 have also been exceeded.

The average daily value recorded on 19.12.2016 was 168.3 µg/m³, which at the same time is the highest value recorded during this year, while the permitted daily limit value for the protection of human health for PM10 is 50 µg/m³.

High concentrations have also been recorded for PM2.5 particles, where on the same day and at the same location, a daily average value of 156.11µg/m3 was recorded, corresponding to an Air Quality Index (AQI) value of 207, or to the purple zone, which is very unhealthy, where particularly people with respiratory and heart diseases, the elderly, and children are at risk.

Such individuals are advised to avoid outdoor activities and prolonged stays in areas with high pollution concentrations.

This situation has arisen not only as a result of pollutant sources in the air quality, which are now known, but also due to unfavorable meteorological conditions that have occurred during this period of time, where the meteorological parameters were recorded as follows: Wind 0.0 m/s, Temperature -10°C, Humidity 98%, and Atmospheric pressure 959.1 mb.
