21 December 2016
21.12.2016 - Based on measurements carried out by the Hydrometeorological Institute of Kosovo and from the analysis of the results obtained from automatic air quality monitoring, it has been observed that even in recent days there have been exceedances of the daily limit values for PM10. The permissible daily limit value for the protection of human health is 50 µg/m3, whereas during these days the daily average value recorded on 20.12.2016 reached 144.2 µg/m3.
High concentrations were also observed for the pollutant PM2.5, which reached the daily average value on the same day and at the same location, reaching 135.7µg/m3, corresponding to an Air Quality Index (AQI) value of 192, or the red zone, which is unhealthy, with people especially at risk being those with respiratory and heart diseases, as well as the elderly and children.
Such people are advised to avoid outdoor activities and prolonged stays in areas with high pollution concentration.
This situation has arisen not only as a result of pollutant sources in the air quality, which are now known, but also because of unfavorable meteorological conditions that have occurred during this time period where the meteorological parameters were recorded as follows: Wind 0.0 m/s, Temperature -9 degrees Celsius, Humidity 97% and Atmospheric pressure 959.1 mb.
