The good condition of the fauna in the 'Bjeshkët e Nemuna' National Park is reconfirmed

20 October 2017

20.10.2017- As part of activities for monitoring protected areas and inventorying biodiversity, the Kosovo Institute for Nature Protection, in cooperation with the Directorate for the Administration of the National Park “Bjeshkët e Nemuna,” visited the Junik Gorge area (September 2017) within the framework of the NP “Bjeshkët e Nemuna.” From checking the trap cameras placed some time ago in this part of the park, the presence of a considerable number of wildlife species was observed, including: Hare (Lepus europaeus), Wild Boar (Sus scrofa), Roe Deer (Capreolus capreolus), Brown Bear (Ursus arctos), etc.

Camera traps are devices with automatic triggering, equipped with a sensor that detects the movement of warm-blooded animals and photographs them the moment they pass in front of the device. These devices are mounted on trees or special stakes. This method is non-intensive for studying wildlife, as it generates information regarding the presence and number of different species without disturbing them. Some of these cameras have been placed for some time in various parts of the 'Sharri' and 'Bjeshkët e Nemuna' National Parks, with the aim of monitoring the state of wildlife and the presence of different species of wild animals. For more information, see the report from the Institute for Nature Protection.
