08.03.2018- Even during the year 2018, the monitoring of the status of wildlife species in the National Parks “Sharri” and “Bjeshkët e Nemuna” continues. Monitoring through camera traps since its inception has provided valuable information on the presence of some rare species in the territory of these parks.
Monitoring of the conditions in the field and the data from the cameras indicate the presence of rare species of large mammals in these areas, such as: the lynx (Lynx lynx balcanicus), the brown bear (Ursus arctos), the chamois (Rupicapra rupicapra), and the wildcat (Felis silvestris).
Also, the presence of other wildlife species has been recorded, among which are: the fox (Vulpes vulpes), the wolf (Canis lupus), the hare (Lepus europaeus), the wild boar (Sus scrofa), the roe deer (Capreolus capreolus), the badger (Meles meles), and the squirrel (Sciurus vulgaris).
Activities for monitoring wildlife in National Parks are being carried out by the Kosovo Environmental Protection Agency, specifically the Institute for Nature Protection, DAPK Sharr, DAPK Bjeshkët e Nemuna, in cooperation with other organizations such as the NGO Era and other partner organizations.
The Institute for Nature Protection has prepared a report on the activities carried out during the year 2017.
