01.03.2019 - At the request of the Institute for Nature Protection, in collaboration with the Kosovo company for distribution and supply of electrical energy (KEDS), yesterday, on 28.02.2019, platforms with stork nests were installed on two electric poles in the Municipality of Kaçanik.
This joint action, initiated in August 2018, had been preceded by the relocation of several stork nests by KEDS employees on the grounds that they posed a risk to the normal operation of high-voltage lines.
Otherwise, the installation of these nesting platforms, prepared by KEDS, with the guidance and recommendation of IKMN, is practical in many European countries as well as in the region and aims to move the nest at least half a meter above the power lines, avoiding contact of the nest materials with the wires. Before the installation of the platform, there was a possibility of deviation in the power system, especially during the wet season. One of the objectives of this activity, besides creating conditions for the protection of this rare type of our fauna, is also the promotion of a positive example for protecting the white stork and its habitat.
