European Environment 2020, Kosovo for the second time part of preparation and evaluation

13 December 2019

13.12.2019 - The European Environment Agency (EEA) recently released the European Environment - State and Outlook 2020 (SOER 2020) Report. The report, European Environment - State and Outlook 2020, is prepared every five years by the European Environment Agency and is based on environmental data reported by member countries and collaborators of this institution.

The report is the result of joint work with the European Environment Information and Observation Network (EIONET), of which the Kosovo Environmental Protection Agency is also a part. This time the report focused on knowledge about the transition towards a sustainable Europe. Additionally, the report gave importance to the 25th anniversary of reporting on the state of the environment in Europe and provided an assessment of the evolution of this process.

In his speech on the occasion of the report's presentation, the Executive Director of the European Environment Agency emphasized, among other things, that "Our focus now must be on increasing and strengthening the implementation of solutions and finding inventive methods, both technological and social, that exist, while further scientific research and development should be encouraged, with the aim of changing people's behavior as well as greater citizen involvement and engagement."

It is the second time, after the 2015 Report, that Kosovo has been included in the assessment of the state of the environment in Europe and has contributed to its preparation through the Kosovo Environmental Protection Agency.
