AMMK clarification regarding the case of the project for the construction of buildings in the Badovc Lake area

14 January 2020

14.01.2020- Following reports in the media and on social networks regarding the possibilities of constructing a complex of buildings in the Badovc Lake area, AMMK has paid increased attention to the concerns of citizens, civil society, NGOs, and other interest groups regarding this case.

Based on unofficial information that has circulated regarding this project, AMMK informs the general public that, so far, it has not received any official letter or request to verify the location of the supposed site, nor has AMMK's professional opinion been sought on the possible impacts of this project on the surrounding ecosystems, the protected natural areas extending in this part, and in the Badovc Reservoir area.

As has been announced previously, the area of Lake Badovc is protected by the decision of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo (No. 16/127, dated 24.04.2013) for the designation of protected areas and their protective measures for surface water sources – Badovc Reservoir.

From the discussions so far, it has also been assumed that the planned area may extend into the expanded area proposed for the protection of Germia Park or even into other protected natural areas in this space.

For the purpose of properly informing the public, AMMK presents to you the map of the extent of all the areas mentioned above, and those who know the potential location of the construction of the complex of facilities can assess the interconnections and potential impacts of the project on these areas.

AMMK, as an institution responsible for monitoring and evaluating the environmental situation, including natural resources, considers that any projects that are in conflict with the sustainable use of natural resources, regardless of their purpose, must undergo the process of obtaining approvals and prior permits and comply with the provisions arising from the Law on Environmental Protection, the Law on Water Protection, the Law on Nature Protection, the Law on Environmental Impact Assessment, the Law on Spatial Planning, as well as the relevant plans at the central and local level that regulate the use of certain natural areas.
