04.06.2020- The Hydrometeorological Institute of Kosovo, based on monitoring drought/moisture conditions in the Republic of Kosovo for the hydrological six-month period October 2019 - March 2020, has conducted an analysis of the situation based on the Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI).
Kosovo is a country predisposed to droughts. The HMIK/hydrology sector continuously determines the SPI for a series of locations in Kosovo from which precipitation is monitored.
The SPI is determined with the aim of providing information to the public, water companies, and policymakers about droughts, for sustainable economic development of Kosovo and better management of water resources.
As has also been presented through the map, the SPI analysis shows that for the hydrological six-month period, October 2019 - March 2020, the moisture/drought conditions in Kosovo are close to normal for most parts of Kosovo. During this period, locations in southwestern Kosovo have shown that the area is near a state of low drought, while the eastern part of Kosovo is close to normal conditions, with the exception of a part of Kamenica where, based on the SPI calculation, a drought condition has been presented.
