08.10.2020 - The European Commission's Progress Report for Kosovo has been published. Within the chapter on environment and climate change, limited progress has been reported. This progress is particularly attributed to environmental reporting and monitoring of air quality, which is mainly related to the work of the Kosovo Environmental Protection Agency.
“During the reporting period, limited progress has been achieved. There have been improvements in environmental reporting and real-time air quality monitoring,” it is stated in the introductory part of the environment chapter of the Progress Report for Kosovo for the year 2020.
Another progress reported within this report, and also related to the work of the KEPA, is the expansion of the network of protected areas, their signage, and the commitment to inventory biodiversity.
“Kosovo has become a member of the International Union for Conservation of Nature and has expanded the protected area status across most of its territory. Kosovo has also taken steps to inventory and mark natural habitats and biodiversity,” the report says, when discussing the progress made in the nature conservation sector.
In the context of other areas where progress has been noted, the report also mentioned cross-border cooperation for water management and progress in the planning and construction of wastewater treatment plants.
