Kosovo in the European Air Quality Index Network

19 November 2020

19.11.2020 - After a continuous effort by the Kosovo Environmental Protection Agency, within the framework of the cooperation program with the European Environment Agency, and with the support of donor projects, Kosovo has succeeded in becoming part of the European Air Quality Index Network.

Within this network, alongside monitoring data from all European countries, real-time data is now also presented from the stations of Kosovo's national network for air quality monitoring. The data is provided for 12 stations and includes 5 main air quality parameters: Particulate Matter PM10, Particulate Matter PM2.5, Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2), Ozone (O3), and Sulfur Dioxide (SO2).

With the implementation of real-time reporting for air quality data, Kosovo has also fulfilled another obligation in the reporting process to the European Environment Agency and to the European Commission as stipulated by the Air Quality Directive 2004/107/EC.

Otherwise, the European Air Quality Index of the European Environment Agency allows users to understand more about the air quality where they live. By displaying real-time data (up to the minute) for all of Europe, users can gain insights into the air quality in their city, country, region, and across Europe, and at the same time, they can also compare the air quality in the respective areas.
