30.06.2021 - Within the framework of monitoring greenhouse gas emissions, Kosovo has so far prepared the greenhouse gas inventory for the period 2008-2019.
This is the second report of this format.
Initially, the report was prepared for the years 2008-2013, while this report includes the years 2014-2019.
The preparation of the Report on greenhouse gas emissions for the period 2014-2019 was carried out by the National Group for the Greenhouse Gas Inventory. This report presents detailed inventory data for the year 2019 and the emissions trend for the period 2014-2019.
Experts from the National Group for the Greenhouse Gas Inventory have collected inventory data and prepared it according to the requirements of the IPCC 2006 manual. Likewise, the selection of methodologies and emission factors was made in accordance with this guide.
The main sources of data needed to prepare the inventory mainly come from central institutions such as: the Statistics Agency, the Forestry Agency, the Cadastral Agency, Kosovo Customs, etc., as well as from various operators and public enterprises.
Annual greenhouse gas emissions in Kosovo for 2019 are estimated at approximately 9,613 Gg (Gigagram) CO2 eq, or about 9.6 million tons of CO2 eq.
The main source of greenhouse gas emissions is the energy sector, accounting for 86% of total emissions. The second sector is agriculture, forestry, and land use with 8%. The waste sector represents 5% of total emissions, while the industrial processes and product use sector accounts for about 1%.
The key categories of greenhouse gas emissions according to the IPCC are: energy industry, road transport, manufacturing and construction industry, enteric fermentation, solid waste disposal, cement production, urban waters, direct emissions from land management, manure management.
