04.11.2021 - As part of the activities marking the year 2021 as the International Year of Caves and Karst, the International Union of Speleology of the Mediterranean has published the monograph "Speleomedit - Panoramic View of the Caves and Karst of Mediterranean Countries," which includes a compilation of works presenting the caves and karst phenomena of Mediterranean countries.
The main idea of the project is the collection and dissemination of information on the speleological activities of the Mediterranean, thereby giving the countries of this region the opportunity to promote research and activities carried out by organizations and speleologists of these countries.
The project aims to make a significant contribution to common awareness and to strengthen the links between speleological groups and research institutions in Mediterranean countries, with the goal of increasing capacities and actions to support the protection of karst and caves.
The monograph is structured with general articles that provide a panoramic view of karst, geomorphology, hydrology, bio-geography, and subterranean biology, as well as the history and cults associated with caves in Mediterranean countries.
In one of the articles, the speleology of Kosovo is also presented, thanks to the efforts of the Kosovo Institute for Nature Protection.
